historical and contemporary references to develop a distinct visual language.
Artist Statement
My work explores identity, memory, history, and the complexities of the human experience. Drawing from Black American history,
African art, mythology, music, popular culture, and personal experiences, I
bring together imagery from different times and places to create new
narratives.
Through acrylic, spray paint, charcoal, and oil stick, I
combine abstraction, distorted figures, symbols, and text to explore the
relationships between the past and present. My process is often spontaneous,
allowing imperfections and unexpected discoveries to become part of the work.
I am interested in the contradictions of human existence, innocence
and violence, humor and tragedy, vulnerability and power. Rather than provide
definitive answers, I want my paintings to encourage curiosity, challenge
interpretation, and invite viewers to discover meanings of their own.
